hi all!
i am new here and i just bought my very first z32! its a 1990 300zx n/a without the rear seats, ttops and a 5 speed!

i bought this car cheap and its a little tore back, but its a project and I've always wanted one. what better is a time to own one for summer with the tops off?:)

so basically the cars main issue is that it has a misfire? you can tell the car has the power but something feels like its holding it back. we changes the coil wires today and it seemed to help a bit but next im thinking ngk plugs, higher octane gas maybe bust out the ohms meter and go searching. any ways i found a connector today on the driver side which isnt connected to anything. its probably nothing i just dont like parts like that flappin around! ha

thanks a lot you all and im happy to be a part of the z fam!

Welcome to ZDriver!

For starters, you have a copy of your Factory Service Manual (FSM) - or you can download it from XenonZ32.com Reference There are other good docs there, too.

Take some time to get familiar with the FSM and check out the inspection & troubleshooting sections for the stuff you want to work right. They are step-by-step, easy to follow. You might locate that connector in one of the diagrams before one of our Z32 pros identifies it for you.

The FSM also tells you how to run a basic ECCS/ECU(computer) diagnostic to get any trouble codes your ECU is putting out. This gives a kind of basic profile of your Z’s mechanical health.

Be sure to post some pics of your new Z!

Thanks and welcome.

thanks i will print that out at work and save it on my phone. that is great information!
here is the car, its rough and whoever owned it before me deffinetley had the vision but not the funds or the perfectionist attitude. everything done to the car is like a 6/10 effort ha
ill post more later, it is not my dd so it will end up being my money pit that i take my time on :)

Color wires

What color wires on the connector. You should be able to look at the engine bay wiring harness diagram and find the connector with that combination of colors. If you post the colors or a good quality pic of the wires close up, I will try and figure it out. It is a "Bosch Type" fuel injection connector, common to a lot of sensors on the engine on Nissans and many other cars.

Electrical System

Electrical System in the FSM, pages 124 & 125 show the engine room harness layout

Possibly

Might be

1. brake Fluid level switch
2. Power steering oil pressure switch
3. Power steering solenoid valve

Just going off the picture, looks like the general area, but the online versions resolution is a bit lacking, a printed FSM, haynes etc. might have a clearer diagram, if that yellow connector is stock, the wiring diagram might show the color of the connector (printed next to connector)
