Here's an Idea: Tell us how you became a Z Fan
For me, it all started back in college in 1984 (or round that time) in Syracuse, NY. One of my classmates, a very good friend and probably one of the smartest people I have ever met (besides my wife) sold me a rusted 280Z and that did it for me. Those of you in the snow belt know a thing or two about rusted autos. Anyway, that car took me and my then fiancee places. It was eventually totalled by a City truck on a supermarket parking lot.
Then I purchased a 280ZX which turned out to be a complete lemon. Actually, I think I went through two ZXs, I don't quite recall. In any case, I recall selling one to a shop (for $300) after the main bearings started to get noisy - the car was so rusted out that the motor was the only thing to brag about. I don't recall what ever happened to the second one. In any case, I was completely hooked after that. I spoke with my local Nissan dealer about what I was looking for. Summer 1991, I purchased a Supra n/a from an indie shop. Before I even picked up the car, my local Nissan dealer called to tell me they found the car for me - that was my Z31 which I just sold for my current TT. They talked the indie shop to giving me a full refund. It's really been a great love affair and I'm loving my current Z experience like never before.

choked a b!+<h and they gave me the keys to their car, happened to be a Z. why is this in teh Z32 section? why couldnt it be for every one? your discriminating! lol jk
my dad bought a new Z back in 78 for his first new car, had it all the way until my mom was pregnant with my sister in 83/84. once i was 16 he kept looking for a new project Z. in the fun of going with him to see the potential Z's i did my own research and discovered the Z32. found one, price fell down to my affordability thanks to the PO wife having a baby FAST and i bought it. and fell in love. i miss my Z32 stop making me think about it. after i sold it thanks to being caught street racing and also found cylinder 1 to have lost compression to 96 psi (thanks to what i believe was a stuck open injector washing the cylinder wall down) i found my 260 for 1k as a clean rolling chassis only a couple hours up north (also found a TT that was jacked up up there turned out to be PO abuse and stupidity and he fawked the electrical system up and wouldnt let me test drive it) so i got the 260 and then got the love for teh S30, still not as strong as my passion for the Z32 though.

I bought my 280ZX in high school 10 years ago for $500. That's how I became a Z fan. That and my dad owned one brand new in 70.
I swear we have like 5 other "how you became a Z fan" threads.

I grew up around z cars. My dad got his first z when i was just a lad. He got a '71 240z for a first, so naturally my first z was a s30 as well. Then he had like 4 280zx's over the years, thats why I like those so much. I used to drive them as around vacant parking lots when I was like 10.
my story starts off a bit ironically i guess. my g-pa had a 280 that he just finished restoring when i turned about 5 or 6 and he took me for a ride in it being all exited and scared the crap out of me. then my uncle (18 then) flipped it 3 times and almost died, so that long blue car was pretty scary to me as a kid. then going to the local hooters at about 15, the cook there had a very nice Z32 that i'd walk by on the way in. i really liked it and started researching them immediately. then my veiws expanded and i really like all z's exept the z31. i don't hate it, but i might pick a non-nissan car before i got a z31
dsm's are the worst cars ever....
I got hooked on Zs when i was a kid because they looked so cool with the long hood and the sugar-scoop headlights...they looked like an old Jaguar or ferrari or something. You can tell a Z 1/2 a mile away. Thats one of the best things about driving the 240....it sticks out so much from all the generic lumps out there, it actually has a shape to it!

There is nothing more or less special about a DSM than any other car. I think we've had that convo several times already.
got hooked on the body styling of the s30 and s130. it was the long nose and headlights mostly. the real kicker for me was that you could drop a 350sbc in em and build em into bad *** drag cars. but then i made the mistake of getting in a stock 280zxt and well....there went my resolve to build a SBC dragster. I like the s30 alot for thier simplicity and styling. rounder edges and such, without looking like most modern cars (ie: eggs) S130s have those really aggressive square edges and body styling, so i like them for that. Never really got to like z31-2-5. dunno why. just never did. wrong body style for me. Sure they're fun to drive tho. i mean, they got Z on em too.

Playing Sega Dreamcast as a kid, rolling the streets of Tokyo in my Z32 on Tokyo Xtreme Racer. I was solid on the 300ZX, didn't think I'd end up with any other car. And here, I find myself with a Z33. Oh well, I'm pretty happy.
I was searching ebay for Nissans when I was 16, cause my friend just got a pulsar and I thought it was way cooler than my sunbird. I cam across the Z32TT and fell in love, saved up and got my 90 NA when I was 17 and by my 19th bday I was rollin in my 93 TT!

it is way to high, for a manufacturer defect yes. but didnt affect stock cars unless beat on pretty regularly. so thats why i assume mitsu didnt do **** about it. nore do i think they even encountered the problem with how they tested it. doubt they did to many launches.
I'm almost ashamed to admit it but what did it for me was stumbling accross that old Turbo Z comercial from the mid 90's. You know, the one where the guy's driving his Z and some bad guys try to catch him with motorcycles, then a car then a plane and just as the plane is about to catch him the twin turbos kick in.
Yeah...I'm a tool....but I loves me some Z!

I sold my 1967 firebird for a 93 na. Fell in love with it the very first second I sat in the driver seat. Sold my 93 about 6 months ago to get married
. I have been heart broken over selling my Z ever since.
