Estimate this value
I have come across a '91TT that will need a new engine. Previous owner completly trashed it out and ragged on really hard. Details on the car seem to go on and on. There is more metal on the tires than rubber, exept on the front (which still look new.) Never been wrecked but there are numerous little skrapes and dings in the body (not a problem since I want to paint it a different color.) Interior is in good condition, just needs the carpets shampooed. Since the motor is blown and the car literally looks like it has gone to hell and back, I have to asume that the transmission is gone too. If you came accoss such a Z that is crying out "Help" as this Z skreeming, How much would you spend?

I wouldn't.. walk away from it.. The 3rd gen Z is a major bitch to work on and it will cost you a lot of money unless you are willing to pay for new turbo's and everything out the gate...
It'll be a fast bastard once you finish but I could easily drop 10k and not be done.. as I've drop 7k this year and not even close..

Re: Estimate this value
Well first of all with the information you gave us it doesnt sound like thats the ideal car. Personally you would be better off spending $14,000-$17,000 on a twin turbo. Get a car that is in good condition or else your going to get ripped off!!! Even if you find a car thats nearly perfect... maby one engine problem it could end up costing you thousands of dollars!!! & then by saving 1-2 grand you would end up spending it right away on the car. Dont short change your self!!!! That car that you looked at is not worth it! Unless you have $2,000 for a good paint job, $4,000-$5,000 for an NA engine up to $7,500 for a new engine (TT). I belive that a new long block from the factory was $8,000 with the turbos, (but that was back in 1993) I dont know how much they are anymore? As far as the tranny your looking at another couple thousand dollars. So in the end you could easily put in the value of the car plus more just to get it on the road. & that does not even enclude the price that you pay for the car. You never know about the suspention but it looks like that is defentally another thing that would need to be changed out. The best advice I could give you would to run the opposite direction as fast as you can! Its NOT worth it. Get something reliable from the start.
