check out this intercooler piping

Interesting design...I wonder if it helped overall gains at all. I'm guessing it's custom.

no the pipes that go from the turbos to the intercooler(s) are mandrel bent at a different angle than stock or even the usual aftermarket pipes. I wonder why the guy did this. I just thought it was interesting.

probably minimal gains.
there was someone on tt.net who fabbed up custom piping and shortened the route drastically

the website that was from actually had a bunch of very inexpensive Jspec cars. The prices are before shipping and legalization. You could also get skylines for around that same price.

i think you're mistaking the tube that runs to the intakes as a balance tube. looks more like a nitrous feed to me. the plenum already incorporates a balance tube so having one there would be kinda redundant.

no, I was talking about the pipes that go from the turbos to the intercoolers. Not the balance tube. And the balance tube where this guy put it is pretty common on cars with FMICs. The FMIC disrupts the air going into the intake, so the extra balance tube there is supposed to smooth it back out.

Now that we are on it. You think a custom, larger diameter balance tube would ever do anything? I wouldn't think so...but thought I would bring it up for argument sake.

I wouldn't think so. What would be the reasoning behind it? I can see how an extra balance tube before the manifold might be able to do something, but not a bigger diameter balance tube.

Yup, I'd agree. I have seen the pre-tb balance tube on a lot of engine from the Japanese crowd...even on Hyper Rev there are a few instances of it.

If the tubes that were used in this car uses fewer sharp bends; which it looks like it does, and it uses larger diameter piping, then it would allow a greater volume of air to flow through the pipes at a greater speed. It would be a performance upgrade. I'd be interested in seeing the pre and post install dynos.

I would, but I wanna know what real benefit it has? I would be scraping that thing all around the place.

no real benefit unless you're hitting high speeds.

It should not do anything on a truly healthy car. The purpose of the balance tube is to balance out airflow between the left and right banks. There should NOT be a big enough difference between airflow to warrant the need for a larger or extra balance tube; the differences in airflow should be minimal. If there is a huge difference in airflow that would make the extra balance tube (or larger balance tube) necessary, then there's a problem with the car that needs to be worked out properly.
