bad oil pump???
Anybody ever hear of oil pump issues with 300's?? I have a '92 TT with 74 k miles on it...This past weekend the oil pressure started dropping real low (10psi) after it warmed up when I was at idle. While driving it seemed pretty normal, however (~ 60 psi). Pretty sure the sending unit works bc I tested it and the resistance seems within the range in the book. Oil level was fine too. Any input??

I would try an aftermarket oil pressure gage first, before assuming the pump is going bad.

It's pretty common with these cars. It's probably your oil pressure sending unit.
hmmm.... yeah...
ummm..... sorta a DUH question but you frequently change your oil and oil filter? jsut so your not getting any blockage.... you know? |
99.99% likely that it's the sending unit. .01% that it's a blockage.
really... just .01???? haha.... thats an interesting statistic.....
Sorry, maybe like .001%.
Just a follow up...I took out the sending unit and sprayed down the elec. components, even though they didn't look damaged or corroded. Seems to be working now. Kind of a relief too...I had a quote for 14 hours of labor if it was the oil pump!!
14 hours!!!! ouch......multiply that by an 80 dollar and hour shop rate......
That's rediculous. If it takes them 14 hours to do an oil pump on a L6 they need better mechanics.
Z32... vg30dett not L6... still should take 14 hours i wouldnt think...
Oh shite, I hit the new posts and thought I was still under the 280 forum...lol Oops...
