350z Vs 300zx

From the two witch one has the most Potential as far as HP goes? I would think the 300 just because it's already Turbocharged. I just keep hearing that the 350 has so much Potential. I have a 300 so im bias anyway, i just want to hear what you guys have to say.... I'll post the same question on other forums too, to get a general feel..

I'm not too sure, but I would say that the 350 has the most potential. I say this because it's literage is higher, so more potential right there. The 300ZX is already turbocharged, whereas the 350Z is not, so I feel that with 298 hp stock, the 350Z could achieve more horsies.

The z32. Aftermarket companies might have better luck with tickling the 350 to life later on, but right now, there are plenty of FI Z33s, and plenty of them have blown up.

i'll go with what i've seen...and i may have not seen it all, but what i do know is that there are SEVERAL 300zx's out there, totally street legal, putting over 600hp to the wheels...and the most i've ever seen or heard come out of a 350 or a g35 for that matter, was about 400wheel...

plus, IMO, the 300zx 1990-1996 was the best looking car Nissan has ever produced...the 350 is hot, as is the g35 coupe...but they aren't near as sporty...

As of right now, the 300 has more potential. Its ahead by a landslide! Random guys like you and I are getting their 300 up in the 700 wheel horsepower range. I haven't seen a 350 with that kind of power yet.

I've heard this statement from numerous sources, including a relative that works at nissan north america: The factory VQ35 motor is pretty much maxed as designed and built by nissan. Greddy & Stillen know this and that's why they're only building low boost aftermarket products.

imho, Liter to liter, the 3.5 has more potential, but it'll take more cubic dollars to get 500 h.p. out of a VQ35 than a VG30. I was talking to a guy at the msa show with the stillen s/c........... he said it adds a whoppin' 80 h.p.

And, one of those arguments on turbo-ing an n/a car, greddy builds their turbo kit for a motor with stock 10.3:1 c/r. I haven't heard about any of them blowing up.

The 300zx was designed to withstand the rigors of turbocharging and boost. The internals were already beefed up from the factory enough to handle high horsepower. The 350Z cannot handle much boost without a major buildup. Also I think the 300 looks so much damn sexier. I'm not really too fond of the 350's bubble butt look. Nissan should have kept the low, wide, sleek look IMO.

pretty much boils down to how much money you are willing to throw at it. theres 4 bangers out there pushing 1000hp, but that takes some serious bucks. there are more aftermarket parts for the z32, and its already set up for forced induction, so you can probably push quite a bit more out of it without having a tree that grows $100 bills in your back yard. that, and i have to agree with everyone who said the z32 is the best looking z. the z33 just never made me drool like the z32 did.

I'll take a TT Z32 over a 350. honestly Z32 have so much more potential just because it was produced when the companies where more about performance not money. now it's more money and emitions. Z32 all the way baby. 350Z is stilla nice car though.

Z32>>>>Z33
for the unlimited bank account you could have a serious arguement between the two but for the average joe, it's the Z32 all the way.
Overcoming the dead serious ECU obstacle that the Z33 presents is it's most serious flaw and challenge. A simple intake is all that would be needed to make a stock Z32 TT better than a stock Z33.

I could actually handle one of each, and a tt and a G coupe. Agreed, the z32 is the best looking but I don't mind a little diversity.

I would take a G coupe over the 350. I must say the 350 roadster looks nice though, with the top down anyway.

Granted the VG30's rods are forged, it has nothing to do with its internals being "beefed up"! It can handle more boost because it has a 8.5:1 compression ratio vs. the 350's 10.3:1 ratio.

Yes, lower compression is better for forced induction cars and allows more boost. Thanks for sharing that bubba.

one of my first posts ever.... "there's no replacement for displacement." The fact is that if you build two relatively equal motors, the larger displacement motor is faster. imho, The people with money, that want to, can easily put 8.5:1 pistons in a vq35 and then boost the hell out of it, The bottom end, technology wise, is prolly as strong, or stronger that the vg30.

As I said, I'll take one of each.

Just curious, how are the handling abilities of the 350 as compared to the 300? Stock for stock. I have never driven nor rode in a 350 so I was just wondering how well it performs in that aspect.

well, if i remember right, the Z33 was designed to approach near Z32 power and handling.
Although they came up a tad short power wise, i do think they outhandle the stock Z32TT.

I would like to hear more about this 875 rwhp Z.

sya11, give us some details about your car and don't forget some pics. Pics drive us all into frenzies (or at very least we like to look at them).
