1993 tt engine options

I bought a 1993 tt to restore. I have already restored most of the interior and I am now ready to replace the engine. I have the heads, turbos, and other components, I just need a short block. I have heard bad things about JDM engines, but since I would have the engine rebuilt is that a good option? I have seen already rebuilt engines at some online market places, if that a better option what are some dependable stores? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hope to have the car ready before summer.

JDM Motors

Th reason we have such good access to used Japanese engines is because of they're crazy registration laws, to register a used car, it has to be restored to new condition to pass an JDM MOT, they want rust repaired, and all mechanical systems up to spec, all to often because of the salt air and rust and just the cost of the JDM work, Japanese just scrap they're cars, most with less than 100k on them, so it really depends on who owned it and how they took care of it. I lived over there for a year, bought a used car, when the registration ran out, we abandoned it, the door were falling off a 6 year old car, rust in Okinawa is probably much worse that the mainland. But still, you should have good luck with a JDM motor, some of those places ship for free too.
