1990 Z32 TT w/ testpipes strong exhaust smell in cabin
Hi all,
I bought another Z32 this fall and it has a catback exhaust with testpipes installed, the problem is that the smell is overpowering in the cabin of the car, it's almost like there is a tailpipe running in the window my clothes smell of exhaust after driving. I remember in my last z32 when I installed testpipes there was a pretty bad exhaust smell as well, possibly the same. There were also these little tubes on the other exhaust.
My questions are:
I have the original exhaust w/ cats, at the front there are two little accordion type tubes that come out from the sides at the front where the cat section connects to the engine, there are no such connectors on test pipes (or even in the drawing of the TT exhaust on wiki), is it possible whatever was connected to those little pipes is now unplugged and just seeping exhaust underneath the car coming up into my windows?
Is this just a fact of life of test pipes, if so I'll just have them changed back.
Do you think there's some other type of exhaust leak causing this?
I notice it mostly when idling at a red light, like the smell is seeping upwards.
Any ideas would be much appreciated, Thanks!
Mike
