i searched but didnt find. maybe someone can help me.

when i got the car the tires were a bit more worn in back than front.....does this mean that it had been wearing like this....i.e. which wears faster the front or back for normal driving? Or did they guy before me already rotate them because i rotated them and now the 2 with more meat on them are in the back, is this good?

so do the fronts or the rears wear faster because right now the rears have more tread since i rotated them i want to know if i should keep them that way or put them back the way they were.

 

THE FRONTS SHOULD HAVE MORE TREAD BEFORE YOU ROTATED THEM. THINK HOW A REAR WHEEL DRIVE CAR MOVES. thE REAR WHEELS PUSH THE CAR SO THAT MEANS THEY HAVE MORE STARTING FRICTION. PLUS IF ITS A MANUAL TRANNY WHEN YOU POP THE CLUTCH THE REARS BURN OUT NO THE FRONTS. ALL THE FRONTS DO IS STEER THE CAR AND ALLOW IT TO ROLL. THINK OF IT LIKE A MOTORCYCLE. THAT HELP AT ALL?

yeah the rears wear faster if you think it wsas time to rotate then rotate but next time it will be tire changing time.

You should rotate your tires every 5k miles. You'll get at least 25% more mileage out of all four tires if you do this from the day they're new.

Everybody might have their own opinion on which wheels should get the tires with the better tread. But, if you're driving in the rain or other adverse conditions, the wheels that control the steering and most of your braking power should get the most tread. The Z can be a handfull in the rain even with brand new tires at all for corners.

By design, the Z'z front suspension geometry runs more camber angle thru its travel than the rear suspension. So inherently the front tires will wear faster without rotating them. Don't forget that the majority of the car's weight is on the front wheels. Weight causes heat, and heat causes wear. You might notice too, that the pressures are different from front to rear. 33 psi front, 36 psi rear. The lower front pressure allows for a wider tire contact patch on the ground. This doesn't change the fact that the fronts have more loading on the inner part of the tire. But, when you rotate them to the rear, and inflate them to 36 psi, the loading on the tire changes torwards the center of the tire and spreads the wear pattern more evenly across the tire.

so i have one person saying the rear will wear faster and one saying the front will wear faster. anyone know which is which.

well it depends... front does have the camber it will wear the inside faster unless you have rear camber issues like i did on mine... i also loved smoking tires... for that you can get a VERY fast inner tire wear in hte rear.... it was ridiculous... i actually didnt even light up the new tires i had and they were wearing faster because of my severe camber issues. so it all depends.

 

Just think about the steering and braking part. It is what is important.

 

well damnit i just rotated the more worn ones to the front...which is weird cuz the guy that sold me the car had the tires on there since he had it and he never rotated them and it was already more worn in the back. but just had to check.

how long you guys think that the front ones with like a couple cm of tread on inside and full tread on outside will last?

 

a week, a month, a year. no way to tell, too many variables involved, especially without even knowing what kind of tires. but even with that info, it would purely be a guess.

 

i dont like the idea of bald tires on the front of the car...

 

have another question...pointless in starting new thread. anyways my buddy has tires from his old trans-am and they are 255-55-16, will they fit? im thinkin of putting them on the rear for now untill i get all new tires in the spring.

 

yes they'll fit although they'll be a higher profile than stock.
