NA vs. TT power steering pump

since the TT swap i have no power steering...we tried to weld shut the passages that take PS fluid to and from the hicas pump, but they just ended up pissing away all my fluid and now i have no power steering...

i thought i would need a hicas eliminator, so i called AMZ earlier to ask about his, and was told that all i need to do is find a newer NA pump because my old NA one had a dif. pully than the tt's...the belt was different, but apparently the newer NA's used the same belt as the tt's, and rather than spending $150+ on a hicas eliminator i could just spend $50 or so on a newer used na pump...

i called Z1 after that because i know they have a ton of used parts, and they told me that what i was told wouldn't work...their advice was to buy an NA belt and use my old NA pump, and it should work fine...i told them i have the UR underdrive pully for the TT, and still insisted that my old NA pump with an NA belt would work...

i dont know enough about the differences to safely make the decision which route to go, and since i got some different advice from two highly knowledgable sources, i'm gonna just sit back and see what the many members of the Z forums suggest i do...

ps: i really dont like the idea of just welding shut the passages on the tt pump and keeping it as is...just doesn't seem smart or like it would be reliable to me...

don't run your car for awhile without fluid... it will burn the pump up...

and yes the old belt WILL work even with the UR racing pulley. the TT belt is slightly wider than the NA, so when u put the NA belt on the UR pulley, put it on the front most grooves, there will be one back one with no belt on it. should be fine.

go with what Z1 said, they do TT swaps like everday probably.

i found my old NA pump with the mounting bracket, and ordered a new NA belt for the underdrive pully...

turns out the guy that did my swap swapped over the tt reservoir, and the na one was trashed in a pile of junk...

i'm gonna just have my dad make me a hicas eliminator bar at his machine shop...i dont think the amz or stillen hicas eliminator bars have too much complication to them, it's just a passage where the fluid can be recirculated from the hicas outlet on the reservoir back to the pump...

there is an extra line that comes out of the resevoir that goes right to the hicas pump, it's necessary to have the NA resevoir if you have the NA pump, Z1 told me this, and i saw it for my own eyes when i finally got in there...

i'm going through maybe a quart of power steering fluid a week now, which isn't bad...it got rid of the bad noises from the pump and the power steering works fine, but i still plan on fixing it obviously, like i said...i'm just gonna buy the hosing i need and create an eliminator of my own, i'm gonna see if i can just do it all with hosing, but prob will have my dad make me something at his machine shop...
