I searched for a bit a could not find what I was looking for.

I haven't driven my Z in over a month, but have been starting it weekly. The weather has been awful here and I have summer only tires. The sun finally deciced to come out today, so I pulled it out of the garage and the brakes were totally dead. I checked the brake fluid resevoir and it was comletely empty. There is no fluid anywhere around my garage or in any of my wheels. I am going to bleed the brakes next week and hopefully that will fix the problem. I was wondering if there is anything I else I should be looking for? One of my friends said there might be a leak within my master brake cylinder.

 

You might try reaching up under the dash where the master cylinder comes thru the firewall and feel around. That is the most common place for the MBC to leak. If you get fluid on your fingers you'll know where the problem is.

the master will leak out the push rod and come into the cabin and just soak into the carpet. never know its happening. happened to me. its gotta be going somewhere after all.

 

Thanks I'll check that out when I'm not so drunk in the morning. Is this the order to bleed the brakes? RR, LR, RF, LF???

 

rear and front have seperate resoviors, so i dont think it matter as long as you do rears or fronts till they are fully bled and then move to the opposite end..

 

Most cars have a little valve in the brake lines, you DO need to bleed them starting farthest from the booster and working your way closest to it. Otherwise your liable to get squishy brakes.

 

I went and looked under the dash and I couldn't find any fluid, I didn't pull out the carpet though. Is it possible that the master cylinder is leaking into the brake booster? Where is the rear resevoir located?

 

they would be right there on the master just 2 diff chambers


and yeah ive heard that, but never had that problem with just a thorough bleeding. when i have to bleed my brakes which is usually a break job i completly change the fluid in the system, so so much is ran into it, i guess i just never had the problem.

 

Z32's have one reservoir. Yes it will leak into the booster. Sorry, I was thinking of the clutch leaking into the cabin. I would remove the cylinder and check for fluid there.

also, i apologize for bad info on the brake system. didnt remember it only had one resovoir. that is a good link.

 

Ya, the cluch resevoir is to the right of the master cylinder. Canyon thanks for the link.

 

Ok, So I started to bleed the brakes in the sequence provided by Canyon. All was going well untill I got to the front right wheel. The a$$hole that put my wheels on put the wheel lock on so tight I couldn't get my wheel off and I messed it up a bit. Anyway I found the leak. It's leaking from where the master cylider connects to the abs booster. I didn't notice the brake fluid on my garage floor because it is extremely dirty. I know, I'm a slob. I'm calling that wheel shop tomorrow and getting this wheel lock thing straightened out. One last question, do you guys think it's worth it to by the brake master cylinder rebuild kit, or just get a new part? Thanks.

 

Unless you have the capability to determine whether or not the cylinder surface is in the right condition, and the ability to hone it out if necessary, you will be better off just buying and new/rebuilt cylinder. They're not very expensive anyways.

 

They're like 250 to 300 bucks. You know where I might find them cheaper?

 

Rockauto.com has Beck/Arnley brand for $80.79 on closeout and some at $120 - $140. The rebuild kit alone is $103.

 

Thanks, I called autozone and a few other places. They have some reman's for 50+ core. I'm not familiar with beck/arnley.

 

beck arnely is a great company, havent had a problem with them yet.
