Shelby and I have a friend who works at best buy, and he gets half off on car audio so we're getting
This deck.

Eventually some component fronts, probably infinity kappas.

I don't know what to use in the rear, size wise.

And I scored one of these on ebay for what I think is an alright deal, if I can make it fit attractively in the Z.

Any thoughts, comments, subwoofer fitment hints?

jk bro thats a really nice head unit im uber shocked best buy has it.

im not to big in inphinity subs but i like the rest of their stuff and they still sound good, im more of an audiobahn guy when it comes to subs.

are your speakers stock bose?? if so, you need an adapter to change the output level of the deck so you dont blow the bose amps. other than that, kappas are nice. as for subs, i prefer JL, mostly the 10w0 series, but infinity is good as well. get rid of the spare and build a box in the spare tire well. i like stealth stereo installs.

he complained about a wierd noise and we advised him to run his own speaker wires, if he hasnt yet, now is a better time than ever, and might as well upgrade the speakers as well.

New Wire, new speakers, I have no idea how the stock bose speakers are working right now, they were hard wired to the headunit that was in the car. Before I talked to you guys I wired in a new (somewhat less lame) head unit the same way, they work, but there is some sort of electrical interference that causes them to whine.

I used to really like the audiobahn stuff then I had three really bad experiences with them. Well actually one with them, two with their parent company jensen.

Ultimately, I would really like to get the JL Audio stealth box, meant for the Z but its like 500 bux and its totally out of the question now. Anyone have a link to building one in the tire well?

EDIT: Scratch the tire well idea. It would interefere with the T-Tops, damn slicktop owners :)

I guess this is probably lazy too. But i've searched (went through Riz's link page) on the forum and on the web, and I can't get a straight a answer.

90 NA 300ZX what size are the front door speakers?
The writup on the link page says 5 1/4 (great cause thats what I have to replace them with right now.

and another I read said they were some strange (to me) 3 and some odd inch speakers. Which, in my mind seems like a small speaker for the size of the grill they have on there.

take em out an measure, they are full cirlces all around i think 5 1/4 sounds right...

and audiobahn was awsome with me, i got this awsome sub that was blown for free, sent it into them for 80 dollars i got the brand new model of it.

I don't know what the stockers are, but I've got 7" Eton separates up front with 4" separates in the rear. I went the Infinity Perfect 10 sub. I'm happy with it.

UNDER the deck back there, or build it up a bit and make a new deck. that way it is totally stealth and you still have cargo room.

well, if you had actually removed the door skins to see what the stock Bose enclosure looks like you'd see that it's basically a full range 4" speaker set into it's own plastic enclosure. When you remove it you leave behind a huge gaping hole that if done properly, could allow for the installation of up to an 8" speaker. Basically you'd hafta build your own baffle and install it yourself. You could of course employ almost any size and shape speaker to fit in the weird gap.
One of the easiest ways that a lot of ppl go is the Non-Bose speaker brackets. The rear speakers are practically the same thing. I never really used the rear speakers in my Z personally.

i made my own holders for the rear speakers in my 300ZX to hold 5X9's or w/e the oval ones are.

That would be 6x9.

haha... well, might be very soon or a while, ive made so much progress on my S30 turbo project im in tech mode, so im either at work, working on my car or at school, and then if i do come on here i post mostly on progress and and answer/ask questions, dotn worry, once i get the kinks out of my S30 then ill be good ole me again, unless im to busy out driving it :D

500 is retail for the stealthbox.

The shops I called today quoted me just over 600 bucks.

get injenuiative (you like that word) and build your own shit, its not rocket science and much cheaper.

I'm gonna go to my bathroom and build a shit right now.

good choice^^^^ lol, but realy, its just the composite board 3/4 inch thick you can make meaurements get lay outs and cut away, then just use liquid nail and a few screw holding it all together, then its air tight, you can carpet it or cover it in w/e you want, and then draw out the speaker diameter and cut away, make another small hole for teh connectors its really not bad, you can knock it out in a weekend.

True, but you have to admit that stealth box is cool looking.

even cooler if you make it yourself. and you get to pick your own speaker then.

I didn't know it came with a speaker. I already have one. The box in my car (it came with it) is too big. My ten hits like a ten year old girl.

i much prefer the jl stealthbox for the 2+2 it sits under the floorboard where the headlight adjustment tools go. the coupe stealthbox sits ontop off to one side and is rather large imo. the picture they have of it on jlaudio.com doesn't really show how large the enclosure actually is.
