HID lights
HID lights
I'm just wodnering if anyone has these in their car. I just got mine today and i cant seem to find a good place to put the balasts. Also as far as knowing which wire is negative and positive on the harness, if you take out the light bulb there is a red wire with a green stripe in the middle and a green wire with a yellow stripe in the middle and i cant figure out which one is which.
IIRC, most people put the balasts under the headlight assembly itself (there's some clearance between the headlight and the bracket that it sits in). As for which wire is which... I don't know. Consult the installation instructions or the company that made the kit.
hmmm... sucks, mine were straight plug in and simply amazing. i fitted tehm right behing the headlights (the ballasts) cause theres like a little cradle for them they can actually just rest in until you figure out how you want to mount them. mine did fine just chilling there until i sold the car a few months later.
yea i figured it out. red= positive, green= negative. i just put them on and these lights look amazing! for driver side i just let it rest by the headlight harness and the fuse box. but for driver side i drilled couple screws by the power steering resevoir. idk if thats an ok thing to do but its da only place i thought it was good enough for now. but i went and drove it and the lighting is totally awsome. i had silverstars before and now with these theres no comparison. i didnt get anyone flashing their lights at me so i think everyting is ok. i know theres an aiming kit on the back but idk how that works. oh btw i got the 6000k. i will try to post pics. :=)
What manufacturer HID kit did you go with? I have recently bought a 93 300ZX convertible and I have thought about putting on a HID kit from McCulloch from the website www.xenonpros.com.
its a xentec kit. i payed $120 shipped from ebay. i've read from other forums that they're good. so far i'm very very impressed. and it has a 2 yr warranty compared to other kits which only have 1 yr warranty. but i guess its up to u wat u want to buy. of course there are other kits like phillips which have lifetime warranty but it costs more. just do research and google the brand and go from there. i'm happy with mine so far and at night it really attracts attention. but dont get higher than 6000k. 4300k-6000k is the way to go. i strongly reccomend getting one if u dont want to fork over $1500 for jdm headlamps which arent aimed right since they're for rhd. also i read that u can clean the projector and its supposedly makes a difference in the lighting pattern. i'm going to try it and see if its true. but just get wat u feel comfortable with.
cleaning the projector is only necessary if it's actually dirty.
there's some owners that actually go all out and take apart the headlamp assembly and customize it. Usually it's either painted for more reflection or painted to match the color of the car.

I unbolted the power steering bolt and mounted my first ballest there... now the second ballest was kinda tricky but i did it.. i mounted it on a bolt that hold down the multi fuse box right by the drivers side head it .... i bent the mounting tab " L " shape... my bulbs didnt fit worth a damn i wiggled pushed hard but got them in a little bit.
I don't quite know what's worse....the fact that he had to tell us that the red wire was positive and the green was negative or that you chose to dredge up a dead thread from almost a year and a half ago to make fun of someone. Maybe you should've doubled up on the smart pills this morning.
