I know they have some kind of lightened hatches. I'm pretty sure there's a fiberglass hatch out there. The hatch is so heavy because it has a lot of sound deadening material in it. The lightened hatches will be VERY expensive, just to warn ya.

If I were you, I'd get the car running right before I start looking a light-weight body panels. IMHO.

I think what 91 is saying is that you need a TT. jk. but for the money a cf hatch is gonna cost you, you could do a lot more beneficial mods.

Too late. It has nothing to do with this site though. I just haven't been able to get motivated to work lately. Could be that my boss is a *****. I'm going to go off topic a bit here......actually, I'll just start a new thread in off topic. check it out.

Never posted here before but I thought I'd give it a try. www.ionicdynamics.com currently has a carbon fiber hatch in development. They also have carbon fiber t-tops in development which feature a 50% weight reduction vs. regular.

This information comes directly from Jose Garcia, the owner of Ionic Dynamics.

So, would the T-Tops be solid carbon fiber?
No glass at all right?

Not sure, I'm just going by what he said.

Here's the first email when he mentioned them:

"Hi! We have been working on several products
that have been ready since may 04, those items are the
99 J spec replica front end in flexible fiberglass and
with the license plate moulding shaved off, we have
that product done since then, but we have been testing
our new flexible fiberglass and basically have a front
bumper out in the sun and rain. The other products that
we have been R&D are Carbon Fiber T-tops (50% weight
reduction), carbon fiber rear hatch with a
policarbonate rear glass, and some other small interior
trinkets."

When I asked for pictures of the hatch in R&D:

"I can't show any pics of the other products,
but I will make sure to send them out to you just
before we release them.

I've had people trying to discourage me
about making the rear hatch, that the Z is nose heavy
and that the handling would be affected by removing
weight from the rear. This would be true on a regular
street Z, but anyone that is going to install a light
weight hatch has to have an upgraded suspension and
could make adjustments to compensate.

We'll see how things turn out,"
