what is the safe max. amps when doing an alternator upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade my alternator due to all the mods I 've done on my 86T(i.e JWT 450 package, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, dual electric fans and aftermarket stereo and subwoofer, MSD 6A ignition box with blaster coil).

What would be the safe MAX. amps without over stressing/damaging the stock wire harness, fuses, etc??

I know that the Maxima 90 Amps is popular choice...but do people find this enough??

Sorry I don't have the amperage draw for each of the mods listed above as I'm typing this thread.

you need to read a couple books on the fundamentals of wiring and electricity and even a good stock alternator should be able to handle that, but if you have a dead alternator you might as well go bigger right?

But to answer the "original" question. There is no "MAX AMPS" limit to installing an alternator. The alternator may put out XXX amounts of amps. But if the vehicle doesn't need but a fraction of those amps, then the extra goes unused. I always tell people never to worry about putting an oversized alternator into their cars. Always worry about putting a too small rated alternator into your car.

In my experience, you'll be fine with a Maxima 90 Amp unit.

Brand names mean nothing, unless you're purchasing a "new" unit. And I'm sure you don't want to purchase one for over $300, if you can get a remanufactured unit for around $100. Just make sure you get one with a lifetime warranty.
