Stop Light draining battery

Hello everyone,

on my 85 Z31 Turbo the battery is dead after the car is sitting for around 5-6 days. I checked with the multimeter and fuse test and it seems the the culprit is the stop light. I checked bulbs and everything and the stop light is working normal. It also doesn't stay on when the car is not in use. Anyone ever had smth like this before and / or has an idea what could be the problem?

Thank you and kind regards,

Daniel

At least check this out. My 85T brakes would come on whenever they wanted, sometimes in the middle of the night, sometimes after covering the car, killing my battery. Below is a link to z31.com to possibly fix this issue. In my case the plastic buttons that break the brake light circuit when the petal is released crumbled and broke off. So the switch to shut off the brake lights never opened. Very cheap fix, 6 bucks each at 300zx Parts For You webpage . BTW, this guy has almost everything Z31.

Thank you very much, unfortunately I doubt that this is the problem. If I let the car sitting for about an hour to ensure that everything is definately off and I measure at the minus port of the battery there is a low but steady flow of electricity. It's not enough for a light or smth staying on but enough to drain the battery within a week (or at least drain it to a level that the car won't start). If I pull the fuse labeled "Stop Light" it is not measurable at the Minus-Port of the battery anymore. I was rather thinking about a bad switch or smth.

Best,

Daniel

But thanks for the link to the website. Didn't know this vendor so far.

Best,

Daniel
