I have a 1986 300XZ Non-Turbo Slicktop and have a bit of a problem that I hope someone here can help me with. The problem is when I go to start 'Lil Red' she'll only run for maybe a maximum of 3 to 5 seconds and then dies. She just won't stay started. The problem started when my battery went dead and I had to jump her off. When I did a small puff of smoke came from around the fuseible link compartment near the battery. I checked the links and they seem to be okay. It just seems like she isn't getting any gas. ANY ideas as to what could be happening?
I've had 'Lil Red' for almost 12 years now and with 186,000 miles this is the ONLY time she's let me down. However, if the truth be known, it was probably something I did when I jumped her off, but I just don't know what it is I've done ANY help sure would be appreicated!! THANX!!!!

 

did you check voltage to the fuel pump?

 

No I haven't!! That's the one thing I didn't do. However, I will rectify that oversight. Thanks alot for the tip I'll let you know what I find out!! Hopefully, that will solve the problem!!

 

cant wait to see the results...but might i add it sounds like a charging system failure as well...check the alternator charging voltage should be between 13 and 15...or close to those numbers
