Speedo Update... more help needed less options
OK... well I got my car out of the paint shop (finally) and running aagin. Now I only have one last issue to solve before the new owner takes it. My speedo (as shown in other posts) will read "0" at times and at other times it will work just fine. It never goes out (no lights) but it does just read "0". By the way... this is an automatic, non-turbo, 86z with a DIGI DASH.
Here's what I've done to remedy the problem: 1. Replaced speed sensor 2. Replaced speedo cable 3. Cleaned out speed sensor (nothing was in it... no fluid etc but I Qtiped it for good measure anyway) 4. Replaced the pinion gear w/seals and new sleeve I am at a complete loss. I messed with the wires on the transmission and they were all plugged in just fine. I'm guessing this is an electrical thing. Anyone have an idea as to where to look? I need help bad/fast. |
where did you get the pinion gear stuff? Could it be the whole cluster or ecu or digi dash ecu?
I just replaced the ecu this week (and replaced it again last summer) so thats not it. The pinion gear was purchased from nissan (real oem).
the digi dash has its own ecu? Or is that just the power unit? Where is this ecu you speak of ? Thanx
The digi dash just has a power unit. Sounds to me more like a component in the digi cluster itself is taking a dump. Only a matter of time before it stops reading completely. If you know anything about electronics you should be able to track it down by following the traces on the board from the speed sensor to the IC the translates the pulses to the display bits.

unfortunately I know very little... but I'll look
Could be a loose connection at the speed sensor or anywhere between it and the dash. If the digital dash's power supply went out, it would blank, not read zero.
how much was the pinion and all seals and crap from Nissan?
