Hello > new to board/forums...

So my son reached out to me for help with his 1985 300ZX as it has this red glow to the right of the clock in back of the plastic - see dark and then light photo for location. Seems to be tied to turning on the dash lights (gets pretty hot to the touch in that area he says)...

He is out of state so I have not taken the radio dash section apart yet but it "could" be an incandescent light of some sort? - but what is one doing there and what is in that area in general?

Anyway - does anyone have any idea what this is and why it is lighting up/getting hot in that area?

On my dash, I have that light on the left side of that dash panel just left of left button (AC) and it is for the AC Freon alarm.
