I have a 89zx and want a good free flowing exhaust system. I don't have to have a cat. What do you recomend?

This is by far the best option. Not the cheapest but the most popular among performance minded Z owners.

I bought a cat back for my 1981 280zx for 207 with shipping free. It was a monza with dual chrome outlets. It is a little loud, but that's ok and it bolted right on. Cheap and easy.

Monza exhaust is a crappy system. It will rust out in a couple years. I had it on one of my cars (87T) and I couldn't wait to rip it out. Go cheap if you want but you'll pay later.

Have you ever seen someone who has pieced together their exhaust using mandrel bends and welding it? It looks like $h!t. Not that you're going to be looking under the car all the time, but when you do, it's horrible.

One thing that you might not think about....

The CM exhaust bolts together just like the original. So any time you have to drop the transmission or pull the motor, you aren't hacking apart your exhaust and welding it back together.

When I asked a local exhaust shop to make me an exhaust, the cost was originally going to be less than the CM system. But once we started talking about the flanges for the cat and different sections, the price jumped by $30 per flange. So an extra $60 per segment! In the end, the local shop would have wanted $200 MORE than the proven CM exhaust.

Gee thats to bad. i have a Monza exhaust on one of my cars, the 87T. It sounds and performs like the cheap system it is.

It was on there when I bought the car 2 years ago and it's almost rusted out already. CM next time for sure.
