Maxima plenum fitment??

I got a Maxima plenum, I started chopping it all up then decided to research to see if it even clears everything. Obviously the fpr needs to be relocated and the distributor needs modified. But I read that it wont clear a stock z31 hood! Can anyone confirm this?? I was really looking forward to running a maxima plenum.

There used to be a write up on redz31.com ... but that website is gone I guess.

I know you have to "adjust" the hood to sit higher, which in turn makes it look super goofy.

WAIT... I think it's http://www.redz31.net/ now.

it's because the maxima plenum, if mounted like it is in the maxima, would face the firewall.

Well obviously it wont be mounted like its on a Maxima. Unless I decide to route an in cabin induction, which I doubt I will be doing on the near future.

I get what you're saying though. Does the later model hood give any more clearance?

And what would be the point of this? I guess that depends on what year Maxima, but why not just modify an OEM plenum, if you're going to be carving it out anyway? Later and earlier model hoods are different. They're not interchangeable. If I were to modify it, I'd go with a passenger side plenum mod, which would make IC piping very much more simplified.

Meh. The frontward facing tb just looks more badass. Thats why I like the Maxima plenum.

But I ditched that idea a while ago anyways. I'm just going to keep the stock manifold for now.

And I know he hoods don't interchange, I would just go ahead and do a front end conversion. Thats in my furute plans anyways.

I don't know, man. After seeing this, I keep thinking how much easier it would be to run IC pipes. The turbo can stay where it is, and it would be straight shot piping through the IC...none of these twisted messes of rigged piping and stuff.

I like that. The only problem I see is the oil cap looks hard to get to.

I think it just looks that way from that angle. Looks like it might have plenty of room if they had shown a top view. But then, you could always extend that pipe out a little further.

i would spend an extra 30seconds-1minute fiddling with the oilcap when i change my oil if it means i get better performance or easier installation for my intercooler.

Yeah, it sure doesn't look like much extra trouble to me. That's about the smartest plenum mod I've ever seen.

I'm gonna have to really look into that some more. I like that passenger side tb. IT looks fairly easy to fab too. It looks like I would have to remove the EGR valve?

That one sure is done nicely. If you know how to do fab work and know someone who can tig weld well, I don't imagine it would be that bad. While you're at it, you might as well cut the top off and gut it, IMO. I believe I could manage that mod, if I had a few plenums and the equipment to do it. I can't weld aluminum for ****, though. I'd have to have that done.
