Im planning a build, and I need some opinions.. ('84 300ZX TURBO Z31)
Hello members of ZDriver Forum, my name is Hazy, and I own a 1984 Nissan/Datsun 300ZX Turbo. I picked the Z up about 2 years ago, in great condition, but it soon became a garage decoration, due to the difficulty of working on a VG30ET. So in spirit of change, resto-modification, and too much time on YouTube, I have began planning a build for the Z31. The powertrain of choice, keeping in mind the Nissan V6 era, is a VQ37VHR out of a 370z, with the accompanying transmission, driveline, and differential system. The clear issue would be fitment, so I plan on doing a tube chassis into a roll cage. The tube chassis would not only take care of fitment of the engine, transmission, and driveline, but suspension as well. It would be easy just to throw power into the engine at this point, and many would given the factory forged internals of the donor engine. But that isn the purpose of this build. The idea is to be a street car that's really overstepping the lines of what is "legal" in my state of Iowa, and what is not. Maybe a bit tacky, but almost a pure tribute to Racing Team Midnight, but I believe that anyone can drive fast in a straight line. It takes skill to take that power and hold it around a corner. If you want to see what I have so far, in terms of what I'm planning, designs, and materials, let me know. And if you have any thoughts, opinions, hot take, etc. please feel free, I enjoy constructive criticism.
Best wishes,
Hazy.
