Getting to the Gear Oil Filler Nut

Okay, I've checked the FSM and the Haynes manual. I don't really see the answer in either.

First: 1987 (April build), N/A, 2+2, manual, otherwise stock

I want to check my gear oil level in the transmission, but it appears to either need a specially bent tool or the exhaust has to somehow move out of the way in order to easily access the filler nut.

Am I missing something?
