gas ? and burning oil?
First question, what octane fuel do you guys put in your Z? Second, i think my car is burning oil, my chrome exhaust tip is black and i touched it and its sticky. My oil dip stick is above H, could that be the problem?

if it's stock, all you need is 87 octane.

Anyone have ideas on my exaust issue?
|
the exhaust issue... Well my Z does not have that problem, maybe you already blew a seal because of to much oil? Get it pressure checked for leaks, and drain the oil to check for foreign fluids. Also, I dont think it is oil out the back, well, what kinda exhaust? Because thats an pretty long distance for oil.
PS Keep the oil in the middle!!!!! its a old car man ;) |
i have flow masters
|
nice, did you check for leaks? and another thing you could prolly due is check for compression, maybe your rings are worn out? also did you take it to a shop and pressure check it? ;)

About how much does it cost to get it pressure checked and/or have the piston rings replaced (a general estimate so if i go to get it done i don't get ripped off)

ABout how much would piston rings be? |
they are just going to put pressure into your system, and if it does not hold the pressure that means there is a leak, and a set of rings I don't know, check parts america or summit, parts america will give you the cheapest/ prolly low qual, and summit will give you the better ones and thier price
good luck ;) |

4 and 1/4 if I remember correctly, I just dump 4 in, then drive a block, and let it sit. Then I proceed to top it off

I run 89 octane with an STP octane booster. I don't know how much that raises the octane level but I definitely notice the difference if it's less than 89. I had my brother fill my 300zx up while i was putting air in the tires and he put in 85 octane and it ran like shit. As for the piston rings, I've always said doing it yourself is the fun part... I tested the compression on my 300zx on a 40 degree day and I was pushin about 160...I think psi...whatever the pressure tester was measured in...I don't remember.

Did my oil change today, 4 quarts, car runs alot smoother now....i think the high oil was the cause to alot of my problems (Jerky acceleration, ect ect). Hopefully tommorow morning when i go to school ill find out for sure if its running smoother (i only drove it around 2 blocks tonight). Last time i had 4 Quarts of oil + 1 quart of engine treatment

No stock Z31 requires more than 87 octane. Running a higher octane than required can and will cause other problems. |
