I want a turbo soooo bad...
So this guy has a 86 Turbo, He sais that it overheats with in 5-10 miles and he thinks its a head, that he didnt torque one of them down tight enough. He said 600 and its mine. The outside is in good condition (i want the front fascia and side skirts). Inside panels and sh*t

Smart investment? How much should it cost to get the engine rebuilt with new heads?

What the hell are heads? are there more than one? can someone explain please lol...Im in the process of reading up.

If he didn't properlytorque the heads, then you'd need to replace the head gasket and resurface the heads. There may be no other damage besides that. Since you'd have the heads off, I'd have someone do a valve job. I'd have the cooling system flushed.

The heads are the common name for cylinder heads. The heads create the top of the combustion chamber. The valves are located in the heads. The cams sit in the heads. The sparkplug threads into the head. Does that help?

As far as $600 goes, it sounds like a promising opportunity. Sounds like you want to use it as a parts car as well. I'd need toseepictures, but I would possibly consider it.

 

Yeah, i want to take the engine out of it and put it into my NA because i have already put about 5-6G's into my NA with interior...cooling...restoration. I just have to convince the parents, it shouldnt be to hard seeing how i working my *** off...

Well my dad said yes so... Yeah, now i just need to go look at it...and start doing my homework. Ive been workin my *** so hopefully i will be able to fund this in a a month or two.

Anyone have any cost projections? Im gonna make calls tomorrow.

Hahaaha....good to hear that your Z's still running good CrAzY_84na! I'll probably need to repair my heads soon too, since the jerk before me cross-threaded one of the spark plugs and I can't get it out! At least it's still working...for now, and I suppose I could still run the car on 5 cylinders if that one spark plug does go bad. Just no more street racing with the Z31 for me.....but at least I still have my Z32 to whoop some with!~ :burnout:

 

god damnit....F%:# ME...ugh...i had work from 11AM-1030PM...i walk to my car (its dark). And i open the door. I sit down...look at my feet and see a plastic piece so i turn on my light. My F#$#ing Deck is gone, i look around...They also stole 3 backpacks i had in there (school, Swim, and work), and they stoll my CD's...MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ROBERT...what a b*tch...ugh Now instead of my turbo dream coming true im gonna have to fix the deck, and get an alarm installed...

AND my car wouldnt start...the key wouldnt turn. I figured it had something to do with the wires being all cut up? Its a security measure right? How do i fix it?

I was quoted 1700 to rebuild the engine, just to rebuild it, i never got a quote on taking it out. I was in the process of it and yeah this **** happens. So my plans are on hold once agian...

Hey Rob, if the factory anti-theft system is preventing you from starting the car, just try taking out the relevant fuse in the driver's side fuse box! My security system is so old that it locks me out every now and then too, and before I discovered that trick, I thought my car was a goner. Thank God for putting that thought in my head... :hpydance:

This may be a mute point, but you don't need to rebuild the engine. You just want to rebuild the heads. $1700 is rediculous.

Yeah the point of rebuilding the whole engine was to have a brand new one...ya know, a fresh start, you are right tho, and i will take it into concideration after xmas. I figured out that i can turn the car on as long as the wheel isnt locked.
