does anybody get guff for putting money into old Z's

does anybody get guff for putting money into old Z's ... I've been modifying and restoring an 86 turbo ... and it's looking and performing really well ... but more than one person I know thinks I should stop putting money into it and get a newer car like a 350z ... I wouldn't mind a 350z, but I can't afford one ... and I got bit really bad with this car ... I have fixed, modified, repaired parts from every system on the car, all by myself ... I originally got this car because I couldn't afford newer cars and I also wanted to learn how to work on cars, which I'm happy to say I'm getting better and better ... I'm thinking about keeping for real long time ... what do you guys think?

here's some pix

Talking keep wrenchin.

I say keep the old one your fixing and driving it for you not them so who cares. if they had a z31 also you would not be hearing anything from them. i have an 89 turbo thats cost me more then its worth and now i need a full rebuild or new engine and hear the same thing. but its not going to stop me.

I'm gonna keep it, damn the heathens ... even my wife is kinda 50/50 about it ... I got the car all fix up and put back together after a long time on stands and my wife wanted to go to the store and I was like lets take the Z (jumping up and down like an idiot) and shes like alright ... I parked really far from any car so nobody would ding my Z and she complained that she had to walk so far and she said "it's not a Jag" and I said "your right it's not, it's much better than a Jag and it's more reliable"

All great reasons to keep up the good fight, especially the one I put in bold. In our throw away society everyone wants what is new. But beauty and taste are in the eye of the beholder. While the grass might seem greener on the other side, there is nothing wrong with what you have provided it makes you happy. I can afford to buy a new Z or Corvette, but I choose to keep my older ones because I enjoy them.

Seeing an older model that is well maintained or restored earns the person respect in my book.
