Advice..Fuel pump keeps priming when car is off

Howdy Y'all. Just bought my first Z31. 1988 Turbo, bone stock and extra minty. Car runs and drives as it should. However, when I turn the car off and the key is removed the fuel pump continues to turn on and off for about 3-4 minutes. I located and replaced the fuel pump relay but that didn't seem to help. I read in another post that i should have unplugged the battery, which i did not do..Any idea what this is about? Try another relay and do it right?

Most likely, it’s the fuel injector fan and not the fuel pump. The f.i. fan is found on turbo models only. My 84T has it. The f.i. fan is mounted on the driver’s side of the car at the front of the engine compartment. The fan blows air on the driver’s side fuel injectors to help prevent fuel vapor lock and it can continue to run even after the ignition is shut off for a certain number of minutes. There’s a timer for the f.i. fan. The f.i. fan can run down an already weak battery if the fan is running when it shouldn’t be. How to check for f.i. fan problems is covered in the 1988 Nissan 300ZX Service Manual. Some people disconnect the f.i. fan. I’ve never had any problem with mine so I left it intact alone.
