85 z31 gumming up

For some reason I have to warm my 85 to 3000 RPM when i start it up. I have to keep it at 3K till the RPM shoots up to almost 4, then i know my car will be ok to drive. If i dont do this, for some reason when i drive it, it will start to sputter really bad after driving it for 10 min. I know for a fact this is not normal, but does anyone have any ideas how i can fix it or what it can be?

PS. Its a 1985 300zx Auto, 2+2 non turbo.
