Good Afternoon Zdrivers! I need purchase advice and or recommendations. I have to purchase a Speedometer Cable for 1986 300ZX N/A. My cable is leaking Tranny fuild into the car underneath the driver side dash. As of this past weekend I can no longer see exactly how fast I am driving. After getting underneath the car on the passenger side I can see that the cable is cracked. I am in the Southeast, and would like to know where other Zdriver have purchased this replacment item from or should I just go to the dealer for this part which is listed at $106.43 before tax.
Thank you in advance for your time and considerations.

Your speedometer gear pinion oil seals I think are bad. mine does the same thing. seals for the pinion are 5 bucks for 2... The pinion leaked oil into your speedo cable and then your speedometer unit in your cluster. I want to buy a new speedo cable but I cant afford it right now so im going to dry and drain mine... but if yours is cracked I would get a used one or new one. I would take your speedometer unit out of your cluster and clean it too, I did it was easy, just dont break nothing.

I'm going to purchase a new one. I go ahead and replace everything with new parts. It doesn't make much sense to purchase used parts only to have them go out on your later on as well. Thank you for the input.

Speedometer cleaned and replaced with new seals still not accurate
I took the advice as posted and cleaned along with draining the cable. However, I am still not getting an accurate mph reading as to how fast I am traveling. I guess the next step is to replace the cable. Today hasn't been a good day because after doing all of that the car ran hot on me!

AZ ,
I cleaned the sensor at the trainy end. I know you keep pictures of everything, do you have a picture of the cable attached to the back of the dash. I tried reaching my hand underneath the dash to undo the cable connection. No such luck. Please advise. Thank you in advance, ADukesIII
