Z31 fuel pump rehab

I recently realized that my fuel pump on my '86 NA Z31 was dead. Picture below of what it looked like on removal...

I ordered an upgraded replacement, and have done some cleaning out of the tank using weak acid solution (red cider vinegar) first, followed by electrolysis. Got great results with the electrolysis, but will still be using the 3-step system from POR-15 to finish it.

While I was waiting for the POR-15 to arrive, I decided just to see if I could rehab the original fuel pump. If nothing else, I can put it in the spare parts bin.

Used the following steps:
  1. Soaked it completely submerged in vinegar for a couple of days
  2. Rinsed as much of that out the assembly as I could. Not much water would flow through it, and I could still get a strong smell of gasoline (despite being submerged in a more dense liquid, it didn't float the gas out).
  3. Next, I used compressed air to blow everything out of the pump.
  4. I then dried it as best I could with a hair dryer.
  5. Last step was hook it up to a battery and see if it did any good. I had done that before cleaning, and got no noise at all.

Slightly blurry picture and video below of the results...

This is a testimony to the fact that with enough time, resources and will, you can do just about anything you set your mind to (at least in the car realm). Hope this is helpful to someone out there! I know I've gotten a ton of help on the internet, thought it time to "give back" as it were...
