water temp gauge on upper radiator hose

I installed this as a temporary fix for my aging instrument cluster (its the digital one...) Anyways, I was wondering what the normal temp range is for this location. Right now it shows between 150-175 without the heat on and about 15 cooler with.

Thanks

I would say that's pretty good, right about where the thermostat should open on a 160* thermostat...

One more cooling question. Should I be hunting for a fan shroud? Are these very important for keeping this car cool? I guess it's been fine since I havent had to sit in traffic for an extended ammount of time. Or should I go for some e-fans and remove the mechanical one?

Thanks for the help

I have a Taurus fan on my sisters z31T wired to the ignition and it works great when it's 115* and you are sitting in traffic with the A/C on and the temp is sitting at 190*. I have ran a z31 without a shroud, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Here's a couple of pics of my temporary set up. Its a Hayden 14" fan with a adjustable temperature control, ya can adjust it with a screwdriver. I strongly suggest when you do this to double check with a infared thermometer and ensure it engages at the temperature you select. Excuse the dirty'ness i had a busted heater core that made a big mess along with a coolant hose i never tighten down all the way. Hope this gives ya some ideas.
