Timing Belt

I have a 1988 300ZX with 43,000 miles. The timing belt was never changed. Should I change it now or wait until the 60,000 miles?

Timing belt

At that age, it would be a great idea to change it.

S***********g.com offers four timing belt kits for $75 and less. This will get you a new water pump, belt, gasket and pulley. A tedious but not difficult task.

Don't forget the water pump. Any kit for $75 does not include the water pump. The pump alone is $70.

Now. Change the timing belt every 60,000 miles or every 5 years whichever comes first. z31s have a striker engine. It’s an interference engine which means that if the timing belt breaks, the valves and pistons will strike each other. And it’ll be a costly repair job.
