Son of a ...............

So I go to take some pics of my exhaust manifolds now that they are done, and when I get to the shop, I get to see the 'LONG FACE' on the machinist. BIG crack in manifold. No, we can't fix it. No, you need a new one. No, it was already broke, let me show you........guy sprays some oil into the manifold, and this crack appears on the outside, dripping oil like a seive. Guess i know why I was having boost problems. Anyways, anyone got a turbo side exhaust manifold for an 87t laying around anywhere they don't need? Let me know, I need it soon.
Thanx

No worries mate! They all crack! I have yet to see a turbo manifold NOT cracked.

It can be fixed. I had a 4" long crack going perpendicular to the block on the car almost down to the turbo itself.

I had it welded up no probs.

Go find a metal shop.. (I used a transport truck trailer mfg) Someone can weld Cast iron.

BTW I do have a spare set of manifolds on the bench...except, you got it... turbo side has a crack...

you mention that they are now "done." If you got money or work tied up in them for porting and polishing or something, they're worth welding up.

Send them my way if you want. I'll weld them up for a few bucks. (Weld wire is the biggest cost involved, as it needs a high nickel content to weld well).. I've welded up several with good results.

I'd be hesitant to do as the other guy said and take them to a tractor trailer shop...if those guys were good welders, they'd not be working at a place like that... REAL welders typically refer to those guys as "junkyard welders." Anybody can weld...just not good.

Depending on where you live, there are a ton of junk lots here in Dallas with z's there that are in fairly good shape. I've been getting some parst there myself. If you want, I'll look for a manifold for you next time out.

Well, My machinist isn't a idiot, thankfully, so he didn't do the work on the man with the crack. Just the other side so far. The crack runs all alog the manifold, and has two seperate lines on it. I don't really want to weld it, I would rather have a replacement.
