Shock noise
Shock noise
I have a question, I have replaced both rear adjustable shocks in my 1986 300zx turbo. I am getting a clicking noise that sounds like it's coming from the dash and or the center console. I beileve the relay for the shocks is shared by the auto transmission. Any way I can get rid of the clicking noise? Maybe coming from the switch or dash? Ideas?
If the clicking sound is coming from the dash, then it could be the HVAC system.
Are you sure the clicking sound is coming from the dash? Sounds can sometimes be hard to trace to their source. If you’re not sure, then have a kid sit in the passenger seat and listen for the sound. Kids have better hearing than adults.
The 86 z31 turbo model has remote adjustable shock absorbers and the control unit for all four shocks is located in the spare tire well. The 86 z31 automatic also has a control unit in the spare tire area for the transm. I don’t think electronic control units or relays make clicking sounds.
I replaced all four OEM adjustable shocks on my 84 turbo a few years ago. I disconnected the center console shock switch. The switch blinks but there’s no clicking sound.
