I have thought about this a bit..we all suffer from baldness..around the shift boot. Right around the top a few inches down..you know what I mean if you are a Z31 Driver.

To find a boot with the exact color match (Tan in my case) is virtually impossible.
Here is a possible solution I am going to try..and make a video of the job.

There is a bit of play in the boot..and enough where if we cut out the area with the baldness and lift up the leather, we can make a new top
and ring around the shifter. In other words, lift it enough to get rid of the bald spots and still have enough give on the bottom...

I have seen the inside of these boots- there are elastic bands pulling down the sides- from top to bottom. That is why when you pull the boot it has stretch and there is enough material to still leave the boot looking like the original fit.

It is doable..I am going to wait for the weather to warm up and then pull the console out to get at the boot.,.
I do not recall how the top is made..but there is a ring sewn in to the material which slips over the shifter and holds in place from slipping down. This will be the most difficult task.
