Need Help

I have an 85 z3t. I have had a prob with it starting getting down the road some and just dying on me. i thought it was the coil and i took it and got it tested. it was putting out really low. so i bought a new one and the car started up fine. i let it sit for 10 min. then it died. i started it back up and went down the road and it died for like 15 minutes then restarted. any ideas. i think it may be a lead from the starter.

Re: Need Help

also. when it died once i tested to see if the car was sparking or not. it wasnt. so im thinking it may be the fuel pressure regulator. any input would be greatley appreciated.

Re: Need Help

your fuel system has nothing to do with your spark (ignition system). i would check the distributor, if youre sure lack of spark is the problem.

Re: Need Help

i know this. but the fuel pressure regulator can be messep up. and if it is it tells the distributer to shut off. but i would like any other possibilities because i dont wanna spend 200 dollars.

Re: Need Help

no no no. not the alternater. its already been replaced months ago when i got the car. iv'e pretty much isolated the problem to the ignition unit transistor. cuz when the car dies it stops getting spark from the transistor, but after the car cools off i get spark again. the battery has been at full power. after it dies i still have battery, just not getting spark to the engine. thx anyway
