Lifters
ok i need help how do you phsically tell if a lifter is collapsed or bad sticking? i played with one a few months ago when i replaced my drivers side and the rocker arms sadly they were used. tapping stopped till a week ago. they have those tips on them and some you could actually push the tip in a hair is that a good or bad one because the others where not able to be pushed in at all. thx its an 87 Turbo

Re: Lifters
If the lifters are sticking/locked, it means they're not doing what they're supposed to be. =]
They should have a springy, responsive in/out action. Otherwise, they need to be replaced. It might be a good idea to replace the rocker arms while you're at it.

Re: Lifters
Take them apart and clean them out. Be very careful not to lose the clip that holds them togeather. Then fill the lifter with oil and reassemble it. Get a bowl or pan and put oil in it. Hold the lifter under the oil and pinch it, then release over and over..it should "pump up" and increase pressure. If it will not pump up to where you can't compress it 1mm, then it's bad.
In other words, after it's pumped up, it should not compress more than 1mm. If it compresses more, it's bad.
