Hey, im 17 years old and I just got a 87 300zx with about 110,000 miles on it and so far I like the car alot, but im looking to fix it up a bit and I was wondering what kind of problems should I expect and does anyone know where I can get a free parts catalog, I already have a Victoria British magazine I borowed from a friend and I was looking for another one. Does anyone know where I can get one.

There are many problems with our cars...Do you have a turbo? Cuz if you dont then one problem is your car is slow. Seeing how are cars are old stuff tends to break. I have had to fix countless **** on my car, its ridiculous. The stock suspension is absolute ****. Camber if your suspension is bad will eat your tires like no tomorrow. Hmmm ok i think thats all for now.

Yea, I already have the victoria british magazine, and unfortunatly mine isn't a turbo, dad said insurance would probably be to high and there hard as mess to find. And im pretty sure eveything I have is stock. And I have noticed that the shocks are pretty stiff. What are some good shocks I could get for a good price. I also don't know exactly how slow mine is because the tranny(automatic, unfortunatly) is a little bit off and it over revs whenever it's getting out of 3rd if I gun it.

Also whats the top speed "suppose" to be, I have electronic gauges and they don't show the top speed.

By the way crazy, do you have a turbo.

 

Im gonna be getting some bilstein shocks here real quick but there not cheap - 400 Good cheap shocks would be Tokico HP's from shox.com they are 189$

No mine isnt turbo, thats why im focusing more on suspension work. I know that my car isnt gonna be fast, i just except it. lol except when i see that APC piece of **** pull up next to me when i know i can smoke him

apc, whats that. And do you know why we can't drop a turbo in ours. Cause my friend has a 91 300zx and he said that unless you buy a turbo you can't put one in unless you swap the entire engine

 

APC is a brand you buy from kragen. cheap.

There are a few things you need to change out/modify to put a turbo on the na engine. This will tell you everything. clicky clicky I would suggest just buying a turbo engine tho...

Hey man that 330i better not be yours, if it is your one lucky beeoch. Anyways, do you know of a way to get rid of those two big black box things surrounding my liscence plate. I know they have the lights in them so I can't really get rid of them but isn't there some add on that I can make it look like one long bumber. Cause I would say that the back end is the ugliest part of the car.

lol yeah the 330i is my moms car. I get to drive it every now and then...its quick...13 secs quick. Im pretty sure that you have to take em off and sand and paint and stuff. Not an easy matter, unless your good with that stuff.

For pics you have to go to the gallery and upload them, then link them in your message. For some reason the IMG CODE is OFF...we have complained for a while but it doesnt seem to yield anything.

 

Oh, ok, well since my car didn't come with a owners manual I can't find out how big my gas tank is, would you know? and I have all electronics gauges except the odometer. and theres this one gauge that says how many miles I have left before I get to empty and the thing keeps showing impossible miles, like it will say 349miles till empty then a few minutes later it will say 301 miles till empty, or 118 miles till empty, then a few minutes later 66 miles till empty. Do you or anyone else know about this problem and if its fixable or is it just late 80's technology for me.

The estimated miles to empty changes by the way you are driving. If you are shifting at 2.5 you will go a lot further than if you shift at 6. It's not busted, or it might not be, it's just doing its job.

 

19 gallon gas tank. congrats on the z, i have an 87 also. as for the miles to empty, gas mileage depends on how you drive, but it might just be a screwy fuel sending unit (very common) or other electronic gremlin. you can
swap the digital dash for an analogue if you want.
