Intake replacement (Pics)
Intake replacement (Pics)
Hey guys I just picked up an 85 Z31 5 speed, n/a t-tops. Love the car! Needs lots of love, though.
The intake is 2 pieces of plastic, and several pieces of rubber in between. ALL the rubber is dry rotted and cracked, and it's causing the car to not run well. I know this is the problem because I held a rag over it, and it ran so much better.
Here's a picture of the piece I need, its the one that connects the 2 plastic pieces together.

I also need a good source of replacing those large sized vacuum hoses, like the one that comes from the idle-air control valve, mine is seriously cracked. And I think I am going to install valve cover breathers as well, one on each side, then plug the hole on the intake.

search on line for some silicon tubing of the correct diameter is your best bet unless you can find a junker close by with one intact. most any auto parts store (and even some hardware) will have tubing. if you know the diameter amazon.com has good prices.
Seen racks of that kind of flexible connector hose at AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts. Pre-packaged and sold by diameter. May be dayglo-blue or tangerine color - but as long as it isn't labeled "Civics Rock" or "I heart my Pit Bull" you should be ok. It stretches if you are close to diam but a little smaller. Get new clamps if yours are rusted. Make it a temp repair until you can find an OEM junker with a good Nissan hose.
Check http://300zxpartsforyou.com/ for the intake connector.

Original parts
If you want a replacement part, it will be on this page, might need to look at an fsm to see what part that is.

get your car running for 5$
get a cheapo part to get your car running, when you go to show your car, then spend the 69.25 plus shipping to get the original part. I need a similar part for my 280zx, but it is angled and has two molded in connectors, so I really can't substitute. That might not be the same part either, they don't have pics.
and you can check here too, Steve is a cool guy and will have a good used part for a lot cheaper too. I have dealt with him and always have been happy with the parts I get.

BTW, great photo, Todd. Left no doubt what part you meant. You get the OP of the Month Award.
I have replaced just about every hose on my n/a, some twice. My best luck for those custom-shaped OEM hoses has been recyclers. But those hoses are not available after the model year gets recycled due to age (25 yrs +...) because no recycler salvages them any more. They don't bother.
If anybody has a Z31 you would like to (or will need to) shop parts for, check the recyclers in your area first and make a field visit to any Z31 car still on their lot. If you ask nice, they will let you on the lot to check it out. Take a yellow crayon and mark your parts choices. Negotiate a total price for the parts selected and removed (by them, usually). That Z31 will not be there for long and you might miss a good deal - and have headaches later.
Just ask the 240Z/260Z/280Z guys how hard it is to find a needed part. 300ZX will be on the same list soon. Crushed and sold for scrap. Move soon.
