Help!
on my battery i noticed that there are the 2 main cables ( +\-) and then 2 smaller wires. the smaller wires run through my firewall and into my dash it looks like. my question is witch one goes on positive and witch one goes on negative. there is one red cable and then one that is red and black. if you own a '86 n/a please look at your battery and tell me how they are hooked up. thanks!

Re: Help!
sounds like something aftermarket to me. Only way to tell is to find out where they go.

Re: Help!
i think it might have something to do with my a/c, speedo, etc. because after i had work done on the car, all these became whacked out. thge a/c only works sometimes and the same with the speedo. i think the wires could possibly be the power supply. if i were to switch them, do you think i could fry something?

Re: Help!
What did I just say?
THEY ARE AFTERMARKET!!!!
Or don't you pay attention?
There are a total of three stock wires coming off the battery.
Negative terminal = 1 BIG FAT cable that attaches to the body right behind the battery and again on the bell housing at the starter.
Positive terminal = 1 BIG FAT cable that goes straight down to the starter.
There is also a large (about 6 or 8 gauge) wire that goes to the fusible links that are right by the battery on the engine bay side of the fender.
Any other wires attached to the battery are aftermarket. Probably a previous owner had an alarm or a stereo system in the car and ripped it out before they sold it, but left a bunch of wires hanging around.

Re: Help!
two things..
#1-- there have been two owners to this car... me an my uncle. the ONLY AFTERMARKET PARTS are a flowmaster muffler and a new c.d. player. when i disconnect these two wires, the c.d. player still works. That is why i am asking what the he** these wires are for.
#2-- I followed the wires and it looks like the go through the firewall and then under the car.. why..., i dont know.
So... if someone has similar wires coming off of their battery.. please reply .

Re: Help!
So you have let no one else work on the car? Tell me, if you disconnect the wires, why don't you hook them back up to where they were hooked up to? Or were they disconnected when you got it? If they were connected when you got it, why not ask your uncle what they go to. Or, better yet, take it to the places that have worked on the car and ask them.
Again, follow the wires to the end. What are they finally connected to?

Re: Help!
the positive was dosconnected and the negative connected when i got the car. i tried connecting the positive to see if would do anything, and i didn't notice anything happening differently on my car, so i disconnected them on thursday, and have been driving it that way since. i have notices no differences.
