darn exhaust manifold studs....
Re: darn exhaust manifold studs....
I've been debating for 2 months now whether to pull the head or the engine.... I think I'm going with pulling the engine. You don't have to get it all the way out, just enough to get a drill onto the broken one so you can remove it. I don' t even think i'm gonna unbolt the tranny. Just the mounts, exhaust and the driveshaft. Of course you have to pull the fan off the front, and the p/s and a/c to tie them back out of the way, but even so, I think that's the easier and cheaper way...
Make sure you take your exhaust manifold to a machine shop to make sure it's truly flat before you bolt it back on there, otherwise they'll snap your new studs that you just installed.... I know they warp, I've had to have them machined before (on a different car) and if I remember right it was about 35 or 40$ to have both sides machined.
