89 300zx acceleration problem
hello, i just bought a AUTOMATIC 1989 300zx from some lady, and she told me that she had some chip "disabled/unplugged" that prevents the car from
maximum acceleration. the car doesn't downshift to the lower needed gear...It seems that if i am in 2nd gear, even putting the pedal to the floor doesn't drop the
gear down to first...please help...the car at 50 mph will not drop down to the lower passing gear either. this is driving me a little nuts, and i don't want to just take it
to the shop!!!!thanks mark

Re: 89 300zx acceleration problem
Don't know much about 300zx. Can you hear a click when you press the accelerator down? That should be the kickdown selonoid. Maybe 300zx are diff than my 280zx. check for wires unplugged or loose. Always a good thing to have would be the shop manual. With the key on press the accel down. you should hear a click coming from the trans.

Re: 89 300zx acceleration problem
try posting this in the 300zx(z31) board, they will prob have more info on that than i would. Also it is worth it to get a factory service manual. They help out a lot more than the haynes and chiltons.

Re: 89 300zx acceleration problem
Also, try looking at the TPS (throttle position switch) on the driver's side of the engine almost right on top of your master cylinder, there's a little plug that goes into the side of the intake (throttle body?), check to see if it's loose... and if you can get your hadns on a Haynes guide or something of the like it can tell you how to adjust it if it's come out of contact... I"m constantly battling that one in my 85 turbo =)
