240SX FS5W71C Transmission
I'm collecting the bits needed to convert my 86 NA automatic to a manual 5 speed. Regardless of the model, finding a Z31 specific transmission seems to be getting more difficult. I've recently noticed the FS5W71C tranny was used in the early S13 240SX. My initial concern would be the bell housing bolt pattern. I know Nissan used several variants of the FS5W71 tranny in many RWD and 4WD models. A quick search of the site indicates the 240sx tranny fits in the older S-model Z's. This implies it should fit the 300ZX, but I couldn't find a specific example of the swap with a Z31. I'm asking if anyone knows if the FS5W71C used in the S13 is the very same transmission used in the 86 NA Z31?
Thanks, Ken |

KA24 vs VG30E bell housing bolt pattern.
The bell housing bolt pattern of the KA24 in the S13 is apparently the same as the VG30 used in the Z31. I found an online publication called "The Dime Quarterly" pandering to Five & Dime owners that contained an article titled "Nissan Transmission Identification Guide". This is a great article. It really discusses the evolution of Nissan transmissions, with an emphsis on the manual boxes. If interested, go to https://docs.google.com/folderview?i...RjODA5ODA1YjU1 . Look in Volume 11, Issue No.4.
