1988 Body Kit Switch
Hi, this is my first post. I hope this hasn't been posted before.
Anyways I just bought an 88 300zx and I was browsing around a LOT of websites concerning body kits and modifications. There weren't as many as I was hoping for but hey it's still a bad @$$ car. My question is I found a 240SX with a mean body kit on it. My friend which is a huge Z fan was telling me it might be possible to use that body kit on the 300zx because the body styles are so similar. The only difference is the 240 is a turbo and my isn't. I'm primarily looking at the ground effects and the side panels. When I find the website with the bad @$$ kit I'll post it.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
I apologize. I knew it wasn't a 240SX. It's a 200ZR and my friend says they are only sold in Japan. =(
But here's the link to the body kit I was looking at. I think it'd look pretty nice on a 300zx.

This is by far (IMHO) one of the best styles I've seen for >90 Z car. If anyone has any suggestions as to do a body kit like that. PLEASE reply to the post. Thank you.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
Alright, I would very much like to purchase those with in the next few months. =) Please contact me via email botch@myself.com and we'll talk further that way. My plan is to convert the 300zx into a 200zr. Just not sure which engine I'm going to go with.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
why would you want to go with a smaller motor (2.0L vs. 3.0L) with less potential? The money you'd spend getting a 200ZR motor could easily be spent making your current 3.0L that much faster.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
zbum is right, you have far more potential in your 3.0 v6 turbo than a 2.0 inline 6 turbo. The reason why you would switch is because there are far more after market performance parts for the rb20det than there are for the vg30et. But the rb20det engine was not the only engine to appear in the fairlday Z models.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
and you're going to get these engine parts for the RB from where? Japan? Cause I can't think of a single US car that any RB came in.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
of course from japan where else, the west coast is filled with shops that specialize in GTR performance, and since the RB series engine appears in the GTR, it wont be hard at all getting parts. A little pricy, but then again...what isnt..right?Just get connections from cali, or any Northwestern state and your set.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
Why can't america have shops like that? Why can't america have Skylines!!! AHHHHHHHHH!
Probably after I get the body kit I was thinking about dropping the 90's 300zx engine in with twin turbo. I found the engine I wanted for 2200. I was just wondering from a pro's point of view if dropping the newer model engine into an 88 300zx is worth the hassle?

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
You said the rb20det isn't the only lady to appear in the fairlady Z. What else appeared in her. (hope I'm not being a bug-a-boo, but I really want to lean more so I can make my girl in to a woman.. haha.. if you know what I mean)

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
Well putting the Twin Turbo motor in your 88 zx is a hassle because its not a direct fit, although iv seen it before many times. Its just one of those projects that require alot of money.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
First when I said lady above, I ment engine.. haha.
Second... A 30dett in a pre 90? WOW!!! really?!?! I see the pic... (speakin of which where do you get all these awesome pics...lol)
So how much money would that run? (just a guess) (I know, I probably can't or won't do it, but let me humor the though, get all warm and gushy and wish on it) heh
I doubt I'll put a tt engine my girl, but I do need to figure out what I'm gonna put in my 87, because I want to make her turbo. It's simple like that.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
hahah i wont even get into how much money your gona put into your car just to drop a vg30dett engine in your z. The numbers are crazy, but if your crazy then that would be one hell of a crazy car. If you want a turbo charged z, why not sell your 87 N/A and buy a turbo. Thats what i recommend, anyway. No point in putting a vg30et into a N/A when you can just buy a car that already has it.
but...
If you really want to turn your z into a fairlady, drop a rb20det..the engine is pretty hard to find and alittle pricy if you ask me.

Re: 1988 Body Kit Switch
Ok. So your sayin, just drop the fairlady s**t and just make her faster (ok.. So I added faster to your words) And forget the vg30dett? (Even though my friend can get one really cheep in his shop) For that matter, would it be worth my time turnin my N/A in to a turbo at all?
(Hope I'm not being a pest.... But damnit, I've got her and I want to have fun with her) Realize, this is my learning experience to. And I don't want to be just some guy who payed people to do stuff to her. This is going to be me (with help of course) doing everything to her. So that she's special to me.. (not anyone else, but it don't much matter then does it. lol)

Ha that was the link I originally sent to this thread in the first place. Read the other posts
WingsofWar:
Dear god that was a very very sexy 300zx. I wasn't sure if I was going to paint my car black but seeing those pictures gave me a second opinion on that. Sense white seems to go good with that body style.
If you have more images throw them my way. I learn fairly fast about the things that I get really interested in. So I'm pretty much going to do everything myself and spend a lot of hours into my car. I've only been interested in cars for the past 1 - 1.5 months and I saw that this car was a very nice choice. A lot better then the my old geo storm LOL!!!!
Although I come really damn close to buying an 89 Toyota Supra TT.
Anyways I'm sick and tired of those honda's and acura's all over the place. It's time to step up. Show them what a real car does.=)

Mike. I'm with ya yo... I'm so tired of Hondas it's not funny. After I fix mine up (not like I'm not beating the majority of them already) I want to put on my windshield "Honda Killa" hahahaha.
WingsofWar.... I want some of those pics too. lol
I told the mechanic that's teachin me everything past what I do know about the 30dett.......... He wants to do that more than I do... haha. (Think I found the right guy to learn from? heh) He even gave me a job at his shop so I could learn more.. About to go to work now. (Imagine me... a mechanic... Well ok, I can do things like brakes, fluids, and some electrical)
Well I'm outta here.. Off to work.. holla.
