High pitched squeal

My 85 Z has recently gotten a high pitched squeal when I put it in reverse. It doesn't make the sound when in other gears. Is this the break pads? It seems to be coming from the wheel area. The sound stops when I apply the brakes.

Sounds like the break pads are getting low. The pads will drag a small metal plate against the rotors in reverse gear when they are close to worn out. Time for a break job.

In reverse? It's usually most of the time or intermittently when the brakes are not applied. ZCarz, I don't know if you have an AT or MT transmission, but when you park your car, do you use the parking (emergency) brake?
