Stupid Question

Plan and simple I can't get my shift **** off and I was wondering if there was a secret behind it or something. If it just screws on like every other factory one someone loc-tight that on there damn well. It won't budge at all. If I can't get off I might just buy a short shifter. 86 turbo I should be able to use one from an early 240sx right?
