Front bumper cover removal

I'm trying to remove the front bumper cover on my '84 Turbo in order to replace the a/c condenser. The Haynes manual shows the process, but I can't get the top center to come loose. I have removed five nuts from the bolts across the front of the hood opening (Haynes says there are six bolts...but I see only five) and the screws underneath the bumper. Both ends of the cover are loose from the fenders.

Is there a trick to getting this off?

I ended up removing more than just those bolts/nuts across the top if I remember right. I think I removed the two screws on either side in that black metal piece and then pulled that out with the bumper cover. Been a while since I looked.

Basically, pull on things to see what isn't coming loose.

Yep. That's what it took for mine, too. The Haynes instructions may work for some, but in my case the plastic cover was stuck tight to the steel crossmember across the top. Had to remove all of the bolts across the top that hold the air cleaner box and other braces as well as one bolt on each end of the crossmember. One of those is tucked in alongside the radiator hose. With that it came off easily.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I believe, I stopped removing those 5 or 6 nuts they recommend and just remove the 2 or four on either side to make it simpler. I don't have the stock air box any more, so that's two less bolts as well.
