Zxr 280zx

I had just received one of these cars and am wondering if I should restore it, fix it up a bit for my girlfreind brothers first car, or sell it. I have seen some really good pictures here and on the internet and when it is in good shape they look really nice. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appriciated.

Thanx!

if you got a real 280ZX-R id restore it to its origional ondition.. its worth more mint and origional then it is fixed up... id try to find a 280ZX turbo and fix that up.. but because the ZX-R is so rae that you mght just wanna restore it

What are the differences between a ZX-R and a ZX? Is it just cosmetic, ie spoiler and trim pieces or is it more than just cosmetic, ie suspension, better head, cam? Like a Chevy Xtreme, just a dreesed up S10, or a Ford Lighting, not just dressed up

"There was a special-edition '79 ZX that was designed to homologate a rear wing for racing. This unit had to be manufactured in 1000 lots and thus, the limited edition ZXR was born. The ZXR was standard 280zx coupe with blue stripes an a silver mist paint scheme. This factory registered special edition cost the new owner $399 extra."

This is from a book I ran into at a booksale on Friday, "Z Car: a legend in its own time." by Ben Millspaugh. Picked it up for a buck

So it is purely cosmetic, that sucks

I'd actually seen one in a junkyard in Houston a few years ago. I didn't have any idea what it was until just a few days ago. So that accounts for 2/1000 of them.

Ya, they are purely cosmetic, but pretty cool anyway just because the ZXR package is so rare.
Don't give it to some kid for their first car! Clean it up to stock or just sell it now to someone who will fix it up and put it in Datsun shows. Then you can buy a pretty nice turbo Z for the price you sell the ZXR for.

Thumbs up thanks for the replys

well I finally took the car cover off of the car last Saturday and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I will try to restore the best that I can. The mechanical part of it wont be a problem for me but I will have to get an outsider to do the body work, when it's time.
I found an insurance card in the glove box from '94 so it has been sitting for quite awhile. First things first, I will do the compression check as soon as I can and then go from there. It will be time consuming but this is exactly what I have been looking for, a good hobby in the garage.
Thanx again for the reply's and the pics. You guys really are diehard Z fans!
