writing a report

I'm writing a paper on the history of the nissan Z car and how significant it was in introducing Japanese sports cars into the US market and so on and so forth...

I've got enough information to write the paper, however i haven't been able to find many websites that i could use to site the research. Most of the information i used came from first hand knowledge i've picked up and some posts on here, however for the paper i need 4 to 5 sites that i could site for "legitimate" information.

please help me out

Man I really can't take this 280ZX bashing. The last paragraph from that AdvanceAutoParts website is so biased.

Unfortunately Datsun decided to scrap the classic Z-Car in 1978 and replace it with a "softer" model. The new 280ZX was a lackluster sedan in GT clothing, and although most sports car enthusiasts hated it, it sold well to those who would rather look sporty than be sporty.

I thought really all that was "softer" was the rear suspension. It doesn't seem like alot of sports car enthusiasts hated it. I don't think we would have had the Sharp Electramotive 280ZX had they hated it. Meh, it just gets to me. I hate to see all these stupid sites bashing on the 280ZX especially considering generally the writers of these articles have probably never even driven a Z.

People can complain all they want about the 280zx. But if Nissan had stuck with the S30 chassis for any longer then the Z car probably would've died right then and there. It was out dated and wasn't considered a classic back then. Import cars were still the enemy in those days. American buyers weren't looking for stripped down race cars to drive to work. They wanted better gas mileage and the wanted to be comfortable on their commute to work. That's what Nissan realized. The Z was, afterall designed to appeal to the american consumer. They saw the downsides of the original and sought out to improve them. Just imagine the Z in 1983 still being the S30 cars. Then those journalists would've been complaining how the Z failed to evolve and blah, blah blah. The S130 got hit hard by the smog ****'s of the day as well as the DOT and IT took the hit instead of those agencies that caused all it's pitfalls. It's not Nissans fault that gov. reg's forced them to add those huge bumpers and make the car more capable of containing survivors post-accident. It's not Nissans fault that the technology of the day forced them into putting an underpowered version of a great powerplant into our cars. If anyone should be getting dissed in these articles, it should be the government for forcing the Z to become what it became. Then those fat overweight hypocritical journalists have to point the finger at themselves as well for wanting sports cars with ac, ps, pw and wide comfortable seats when all the while they complain cause the cars are getting slower and softer in the name of the comfort they oh so craved.

Damn the man for forcing us to make monsters out of our teddy bears. Damn him to hell

j I couldn't have said it better. I was actually just thinking about all of that and realized the same thing. Now if I'm not mistaken, wasn't the 280ZXT out-performing the Corvette in those years or was it only outselling. I thought that in some instances it was outdoing the corvette in sales and performance.

As for the 280ZX being a softer car, even though it may have been softer it seems like it really started to go back up by the end of its lifespan. I mean all cars now came standard with the suspension from the turbo model. Horsepower was up in the non-turbo models. Hell something was done right with the 280ZX if everyone who owns a 240Z is dropping in an L28 post-1980. I found it really interesting though that the Z being the legend as it is, all started from what the American consumers wanted. I also thought it was weird that the Fairlady name came from a play that was seen over in the U.S.

The 1981 280ZX turbo, w/auto was faster 0-60 than the 1981 Corvette, manual.
I don't know by how much or if the Z was faster in the quarter mile or not.

The way they put it, I would guess that the Corvette with an auto was even slower... slightly

Now, we all want copies!

I was just going to tell you I remember seeing an ad from in SportZ magazine about a new Datsun/Nissan biography called "35 years of Datsun/Nissan in America" or something like that. I was going to dig up the info so you could contact the publisher or the author and ask him questions.

But, it looks like you won't be needing it now!

Cheers,
LWW
