Wire for A/F gauge and changing brake lines trick?

I thought I saw an old thread on this, but I Searched and couldn't find it. So, does anyone know where, and what color, wire I would tap into for an Air/Fuel ratio gauge (specifically for an '82 Turbo, if it makes a difference)?

Also, can someone please tell me the procedure for swapping out the brake lines for steel-braided ones? It seems easy enough to disassemble, but I'm just wondering what to do about having brake fluid gushing everywhere as soon as I start to remove the lines. ^^;

Thanks guys.

you have to bleed teh whole brake system and then change out the hoses then fill the lines and then bleed the air out of them. thats the easiest way I have found so far.

The fluid really shouldn't gush everywhere. You'll have a drip, but nothing unmanageable. Use a turkey baster and you can suck all the fluid out of the reservoir if you're really worried. Other wise just lay down some cardboard while you work.

For the a/f ratio gauage: It's the O2 sensor wire. Just tap it in the engine comparment.

It's a thicker black wire, but I can't remember what pin it is on the ecu. I just tapped it right before the ecu. Get out your Haynes manual & look at the wiring diagram.

But isn't it shielded in the passenger comparment?

Since the A/F gauge is in the passenger compartment, it'll be easier if I can find the wire inside, instead of routing the wire out to the engine bay.

Regarding the brake lines, if I leave the fluid cap on, wouldn't that create a vacuum, preventing the fluid from gushing out?

I dunno... I would imagine it does, but I just clamped on the lil splicer & it works great.

If you open the line... brake fluid comes out, so just have a pan under it. It won't gush out, but it will drip till the fluid is gone.

Just bleed the brakes after... it's not hard. Hell, I've had to bleed brakes by myself about 100 times...

heres the trick to get no fluid whatsoever to come out. use a clamp or something to put a small amount of pressure on the brake pedal and no fluid will leak out, the piston in the master will block it if its partially depressed, but just a little.

HeatRaver, tap into pin 24 for your o2 gauge.

At first, I was gonna ask how I tell which is pin 24. Then I saw the little number markings on the plastic harness plug. I couldn't find the "black" wire at first because the end of the wire that is #24 is actually yellow! (it's turns to black an inch or 2 from the plug). Thanks again!
